Save Money by Refilling Your Propane Tank
When you come in for a propane refill, your tank can be filled to its maximum capacity. Tank exchanges only fill propane tanks to around 80% capacity. By refilling your tank, you are getting an extra 20% fuel added, which means not only are you saving money, but you can fire up your grill for longer.
When you reuse and refill your tank repeatedly at your Ellicott City and Columbia propane refill stations, you are also helping the environment. Clarks Ace Hardware refill stations require less transportation to keep propane in-stock, creating less fossil fuels and pollution.

You can trust the Clarks teams to get your propane tanks refilled and ready to use! Don’t Get Stuck with an Expired Propane Tank
During each refill, your tank is inspected to ensure it falls inline with federal safety guidelines and certifications. If the tank is expired, you can buy a new tank. We also exchange 20-lb tanks for customers who want to hold off on buying a new tank if their tank has expired. A Clarks Ace Hardware team member will be able to help guide you on what option is best for you.
How to Safely Handle and Store Your Propane Tank
After you’ve picked up your tank from our store, it’s important to transport it back to your home with care. Before loading it in your vehicle, ensure that the cylinder valve is closed or sealed with a plug, if applicable. Whether you choose to place your tank in the back seat or trunk of your car, make sure that it remains upright for the duration of your drive home. Never store your propane tank in a hot car.
Once you’ve made it home, take the tank out of your vehicle right away. Next, remove the plastic wrap from the tank, if applicable. If you plan to store it outside, place it on a stable, flat surface. You can choose to cover the tank or leave it uncovered, but either way, be sure that it is in a shaded area that will not exceed 120 °F.
Storing your propane tank indoors is not recommended as it is unsafe to have it in or near living areas. If you must store the propane tank indoors, your garage or a detached shed is the best option.
